I primarily use charcoal for preparatory sketches for paintings. But sometimes it's just fun to get back to drawing...like when I was a kid in church learning to draw on the bulletin during the sermon.
My dad, Jack, was a big personality and beloved by many people in our hometown of Greensboro, NC. I created this charcoal sketch on Father's Day from an old photo of he and my mom, Muriel. The picture was taken on their honeymoon in Mexico where my father was playing winter baseball during the off-season while away from the Brooklyn Dodgers farm league. I framed this piece and exhibited at the Conroe Art League in July, 2017. It now hangs in our bedroom and I am pleasantly reminded of him everyday.
Friend Larry Sledge at the Conroe Art League exhibit. Meant a lot to me that Larry and other friends attended in support.
Not sure why I chose this subject. Probably due to my interest in the John Singer Sargent works with Spanish themes. I finished this relatively quickly in one afternoon. I exhibited it at the Conroe Art League in July '17. It now hangs in our home.
Great friends & good time at Conroe Art League exhibit.
