About Me

Inspiration

For years, I’ve pursued learning the art of oil painting. I love the works of the Old Masters and to this stage, have primarily copied some of their most famous paintings as a way to learn techniques. And though I’ve acquired some degree of proficiency, I still consider myself a novice. In fact, many of my pieces remain unfinished due to technical challenges, frustration, or limited time to work. This website is a step toward putting myself "out there" and motivation for completing ongoing projects and transitioning to original work.

My Medium

I choose oil pigments due to the rich, deep colors they produce and because of the rich, deep history of master painters and the transcendent works they have left to us. I love the interaction of brush, pigment, and mediums to achieve different visual effects on canvas.  For me, oils offer the greatest ability to produce perceived depth and contour.  When looking at a great painting I feel mesmerized at how these artists were able to produce such incredible imagery with rudimentary tools.  I hope to learn enough to create that same feeling for others.
